God is Bigger. . .

Although there are many lessons God has taught me through this wonderful gift to our church, I will conclude this topic with a third that God has been teaching me.  gods-hands

3.  My God is Big.  Rest assured, when you walk by faith and not by sight, you will stumble.  Maybe this sentiment is echoed best by the publican who cried out, “Lord, I believe; help Thou my unbelief.”  Christians who do not stumble in the walk of faith don’t exist.  And some Christians need to let their judgmental attitudes and feelings of superiority concerning those of us who stumble in our walk be decimated.   It is not easy to trust in God nor to believe He is bigger than our circumstances because we are creatures of sight.  To walk by faith is to do something that is completely foreign to our nature (which is why we need a new nature before we can walk by faith).  It is easy to allow the “stuff of life” to be elevated to a place of deity.  Not necessarily to worship our circumstances, but to believe that our circumstances dictate life.  The reality is that there is a God who is bigger than circumstances.  God Himself said, “I am the Lord God, there is none like me.”  It doesn’t matter how great the trial is, how large the circumstance feels, or how massive the problem appears; there is only one God.  Nothing of this life compares to the greatness of our majestic Sovereign.   He rules in the kingdom of men.  In our walk of faith, it is sometimes necessary for God to show us just how great he is by stooping down and demonstrating His “bigness.”  I began to think about this when I realized that the rest of the economy in America is in decline.  Jobs are becoming scarce; people are living in fear of losing retirement and bank accounts.  Everyone wants a bailout, but while the nation writhes in the pains of having a “crisis” that is so big and seemingly insurmountable; God chose to give one of his little churches $350,000.  God could have given this to us 8 months ago and not much would have changed in regards to how it will be used.  God chose to give it at a time that demonstrates that He is bigger than the economy.  He is not impacted by the auto-industries problems.  He is bigger than the housing market slump. (Although that is not to say, that God is not concerned with people who are suffering, but rather that our problems do not affect God’s ability).  Governments step in bailout banks and industries; but God never had to “bailout” our church, because we were (and are) always in His hands.  Several men in our church have lost or are losing their jobs due to the economy.  Each of them was praising God, waiting to see how he would provide for them now.  I believe God used this gift to show me and those men and many others God is bigger than any situation we find ourselves in.  Trust in God, soul!
