The Goodness of God

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering (of God). . .” (Romans 2:4)

Around Thanksgiving time, I (most people as well) usually focus on all the good things of life.  I have so much to be thankful for, and it is good to give thanks to God for all that he has done.  But in reality, it is sad that we have to set aside only one day to focus on the goodness of God.  God is not just good one day a year, why should we then be thankful for his goodness just one day a year?  The best of us maybe are thankful when we see his hand work, but how many of us wake up each morning delighting in the goodness of God regardless of the circumstances?  I am ashamed that I must admit I lack in this spiritual disicipline.  When we are not consistently delighting in God’s goodness, patience, and longsuffering; we are despising it.  God is good, patient and longsuffering because it is His nature to be so.  Circumstances may confuse us, life situations may decieve us, but God is good even when it doesn’t appear to be true.  I guess the hard question to ask is this, “Am I delighting on a daily basis in the goodness of God or am I despising his goodness with an ungrateful heart?”  The verse in Romans continues to describe further how one despises God’s goodness in terms of repentance, but that is for another day.

Hi Matt and Bonnie family! What a great reminder. We all do tend to focus on God’s goodness either around Thanksgiving time or when things are going our way. Thank you for the challenge to be grateful no matter what situation we are facing!

Was good to hear from you on our blog. We are doing well. We are excited about our #2! It’s going to be a girl! I’m excited about that! Ron is a little apprehensive, but I’m sure she’ll be wrapped around his little finger in no time! You’ll have to let us know how different it is having two little ones rather than just one around. I’m a little nervous about that, but I’m sure we’ll adjust.

JD and Heidi are doing really well. They just got done building their first house a couple months ago. We were able to stop and visit them on our trip and their house is amazing to say the least! They didn’t cut any corners and made it just beautiful, yet cozey as well. AND, we just found out Thanksgiving Day that they are expecting a #3! I’m pretty excited for them! Brooklynn and Carter and just adorable and such good kids! I think Heidi stops by your blog every once in a while too, but never leaves any traces! =) I think we should gang up on her and get them to start a blog!

Anyway, your new little man is so cute and Carter is adorable too! Glad to hear that you guys are doing well! Take care and tell Bonnie I said “hi”!

  2. Maybe there should be a time each day for Thanksgiving.

    That would be good.
