Online Book Club

Anyone who reads this blog (I know my readership is limited and that is okay) I would like to invite you to an online book club.  Here is my idea.  We choose a book, approve a normal amount of time to read the book and then discuss the pros and cons of the book.  I would also like to comment from time to time while reading the book.  We could take turns suggesting the books that we would read from a variety of topics.  Maybe some accountability would encourage me to be dilligent in my reading too.   What think ye?

    Matt,
If you would let me be a part of the book club, I could use some pushing in my reading as well. I also have anyidiot.wordpress.com up and running. And I am changing my e-mail to timparish58@localnet.com

  2. Sure, Any suggestions as to book? I just finished reading the Supremacy of God in Preaching by Piper (great book) and am currently reading Pursuit of God-Tozer (I read it in school but am reading it again). and am reading Peacemaking for Families (Excellent so far in regards to handling conflict). I must check out your blog. Good to hear from you.

Matt, I would be interested. Talk to Mark, too. I think he wanted to do something similar on Vox since you can control who can view and comment a little more–it would be a little more private.

That’s so funny you should start this b/c I have been (since August) tossing around the idea of starting an online book club in our church that would be open to anyone (near or far). I’d still like to do it, but I’ve been so busy with new things going on this fall I haven’t had the time. Sounds like a fun idea.

  5. So all those who want to do this, what book should we read. I just received Religious Affections, by Johnathan Edwards in the mail. I have started it, but am still in the first chapter. That one is a little more intensive reading. Maybe you would like to do something a little more contemporary or lighter to begin with.

“Religious Affections” sounds like a good one. I’ll try to locate a copy ASAP. Where did you get your copy? I’m not as deep a thinker as you are, but I’ll try to at least sound intelligent.

  7. I got mine at amazon.com used for a pretty good price. Here is the website on amazon. com http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0851514855/ref=dp_olp_2/102-1194458-7775312
It is about 10 bucks used. I also bought with it “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” his famous sermon. Any objections to this book from anyone who would like to join? I will wait to continue reading it until everyone has the book. I warn you, Puritans can be a bit long-winded.
