What A God!

What a God, that he would give
His only son that we might live.
What tender mercy, unending love;
Amazing grace from heaven above.

What a Man, that he should be
Perfect, sinless, united Deity.
What life he lived and death he gave
To ransom souls, from sin to save.

What a Savior pure and blessed;
Died the death, secured our rest.
Now dwells above to intercede
Before the throne his righteous plea.

What a Lamb, born to die,
“Finished” is his Mercy cry.
Justice met for our crimes he paid,
Grace abounding will never fade.

    Who wrote this?

  3. I wrote it, but if any of you want to set it to music or tweak some words to get it to fit music, go right ahead.

    The cause for writing. . . I was overwhelmed with the greatness of our God after examining Amos 1:11. I see an anti-type of Christ the “brother” of Israel in Edom the “brother of Israel.

    Edom, Israel’s brother, pursued him with the sword, but Christ pursues with the bands of love. Edom cast off all pity (mercy in the Hebrew) but Christ is full of tender mercy. Edom’s anger did tear perpetually, but Christ offered himself once for all. Edom’s kept his wrath forever, but Christ’s sacrifice appeased the wrath of God and there is no condemnation to us.

    After studying that, all I could think, was “What a God!”

    Good job, Matthew! I didn’t know you wrote poetry. This is better than anything I’ve ever written!

    I like this a lot. Nice job! Can I tweak it and get back to you? It may be something we could use at http://www.churchworksmedia.com. FWIW.
