2010 Thoughts

Here is a list of 10 statements that have gripped my mind as I look back over 2010.  Some are original with me, some are things that I have heard from others, and some are quotes.

1.  “Pure Theology drives pure devotion.”  Our desire and devotion to serve God comes from a pure, correct knowledge of who God is in his Divine essence and systematic plan of redemption.

2.  “God is God and I am not.”  Need we know any more?

3.  “God does not call us to love and serve him apart from loving and serving his chosen people”

4.  “The truly forgiven will forgive”  If we are truly forgiven of all we have ever done against God, we will seek to show that same forgiveness to those who wrong us

5.  “If it is really good for me and best for God’s glory, God will bring it to pass. Because no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  Therefore, if God withholds something from me, it is not good for me.  This is simply taking God at his Word.”  (From the example of George Mueller at the death of his Mary)

6.  Nothing substitutes in the growth of the church for the consistent, systematic, exposition of the Word of God.

7.  Since God promised to build his church, I must not doubt the all-powerful provision and all-knowing nature of God in allowing or causing what I view as obstacles to this task, but what he views as means to the very end he promised.

8.  To know God is to know his written Word, and to know his written Word, is to obey it fully.

9.  Without a proper knowledge of God, we will have no true concept of ourselves.

10.  Only by pride comes contention.
