You are God (Psalm 90:1-2)

“Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations.  Before the mountains were brought forth or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.”  Moses, the meekest man to live on the face of the earth penned this psalm (or prayer) probably as an old man.  The title of this psalm sums up the life of Moses wonderfully.  “A prayer of Moses, the man of God.”  Moses rejected the riches and pleasures of Egypt at the age of 40 only to spend the rest of his life wandering in the desert with a hoard of misfits.  However, Moses was truly the man of God.  What was Moses’ secret?  How did he survive living the will of God for so many years?  The first phrase in this psalm tells us that He was at home with God.  Only the Bedouin Israelites could really understand this.  They had wandered their entire lives looking for the land of promise, a place to call home.  Moses, the greatest leader of all time, had no earthly home, but he could call God home.  When reading this psalm, the end of verse two deeply impacted me with the simple phrase “you are God.”  Moses had so many experiences to draw from.  He had received more revelation from God than any other Biblical author had, but what made him the man of God was the reality that He knew and understood who was God.  He describes further in the Psalm the frailty of life, he describes the source of true satisfaction (God’s mercy), and desires the beauty of the Lord on his own self.  Nevertheless, what drove Moses as the great servant of God was his understanding that God is God.  It seems somewhat trite to many.  But maybe we all should get back to the basics.  God is God and I am at home with Him.

Nice new blog! Welcome to the WordPress community!

Indeed, there are many times (sometimes, it seems too many) we need to get back to the basics. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
